Detective Gordon Katsumoto finds Magnum and Higgins hiding at La Mariana and delivers the bad news about Detective Childs, who has been killed by the mercenaries. He was hired by someone else, and Higgins runs a voice analysis from his phone to find out who. The answer is Nadine Amherst, a CIA analyst everyone had assumed was dead. She faked her own death.

Her motive is personal. Hadid had been her asset, she had developed feelings for him and had a child with him, and years later that boy died of health complications. She blames the men who killed Hadid. That also explains why Rick, who took the kill shot, was the one she wanted alive: she wanted to hear exactly how Hadid died.

As television, "Charlie Foxtrot" works because it keeps the stakes physical and the structure lean. Rick has the strongest material. After the car crash he is hunted through the forest by armed men on ATVs and dogs, and he records a message on his phone for Suzie and their child, Joy, in case he does not survive. Magnum later finds that phone in the brush and watches the video, which is the most affecting moment in the hour.

The confrontation with Nadine is a good piece of plotting. A marshal uncuffs Swyzak and says Nadine sent him, Rick is brought before her, and she is clearly preparing to torture the truth out of him. Then it turns out she never released Swyzak at all: Magnum and his friends orchestrated the transfer to find Rick, and it works just in time. The flashback in which Rick tells the story, showing Hadid using a woman as a human shield before Rick sniped him, gives her something to hate in the answer and tells the audience why she refuses to accept it.

The review's main reservation is small. Nadine, who spent the whole saga officially dead, is arrested and the case is closed, but she was clearly a person with resources and a grudge, and the episode gives no sense of how long she can be held. The question of whether the show has seen the last of her is left open.

The quieter scenes also deserve a mention. T.C. survives surgery, but there is a chance he may not walk again, and Kumu does what she can to comfort his adoptive son Cade, who is scared and heartbroken. Shammy gets the helicopter sequence that rewards his role in the group. And the closing hospital scene lets Magnum, Rick and T.C. say very little to each other, which is more convincing than a speech.

The series had already had an unusual path by the time this episode aired. CBS aired seasons 1 through 4, from September 24, 2018 to May 6, 2022, and canceled the show on May 12, 2022. NBC picked it up on June 30, 2022 with a 20-episode order, split into two parts of ten.

Part 2 of season 5 began on October 4, 2023 with "Hit and Run," the eleventh episode, and ran through a two-hour finale on January 3, 2024. NBC announced on June 23, 2023 that the season would be the last. In total the series ran for 96 episodes, according to Wikipedia.
